Jill has post graduate qualifications in urban planning and landscape architecture based on a technology degree specialising in pollution and waste treatment. After a short period of employment as a research scientist, Jill worked for over twenty years as a landscape architect followed by further professional development studying in the urban planning and design masters programs at Melbourne University. She completed a Masters in Urban Planning with a social planning emphasis and over half of an urban design masters.

Throughout her career, Jill has worked for central and local government, international consultancies as well as smaller private practices. She has prepared proposals for small to large developments in a variety of contexts. In addition to finding cost effective solutions that fulfil stakeholder requirements, Jill looks for ways to enhance wider environmental and community values. She seeks opportunities for people to connect with nature, not only for the health benefits but for strengthening environmental awareness and stewardship. Jill has a particular interest in supporting development of community capacity for more effective communication and better environmental and social outcomes.

Since 1990, Jill has largely worked as an independent consultant either on her own or with a small partnership. Her projects have been recognised with a NZILA award, publication in magazines and enduring client and user satisfaction. She has worked throughout New Zealand, in England and Australia.
